Dennis Hastert, being the large man that he was, waddled his way into the White House. Today, he was dressed in a very nice black tuxedo and wore a Santa's hat. He thought it was a fitting touch.
Knowing the White House probably better than most here, Hastert left his wife in the East Room and walked down into the West Wing and towards the Oval Office. He had heard through the grapevine that the President had installed a wet bar, and the Speaker thirsted for a good whiskey.

Mr. Warder took Ethan Allen's hand, shaking it heartily. "Mr. Allen, even if our politics are different, we're all Americans at the end of the day. Unless, of course, somebody gives me the option of being a Californian. So I'm glad you could make it as well. You're always invited if you have any concerns."
The White House was certainly filling up; soon enough, all of the top invitees would be in the house. And a number of minor congressmen had already showed up for drinks.
Mrs. Warder, in the meanwhile, had intercepted Vice President Edgar Oswald and his wife, Barbara. She chit-chatted with them a bit about the new decorations. "Yes, the renovations took three or four weeks, but the workmen gave it their all so that we could hold this party now instead of later..."
"Ahem! Ladies and gentlemen!" Thomas Cade, Warder's chief of staff, stood on the stairwell, looking out over the landing. "I say we all give it up for our guests. A round of applause for our esteemed visitors!"
A round of clapping followed.
"Now ladies and gentlemen, would President Rick Warder invite you to the White House without a special surprise? I don't think so." Mr Cade was grinning. "And what is that surprise? Aside from a tasty buffet, you've all got a set dancing order. You can hear it already - we've got a live band in here. And, well, if you look carefully, you'll see that each Republican is paired off with a Democrat, and each Democrat is paired off with a Republican. So unless you want to leave here with broken toes, you'll all have to have a dance in the spirit of bipartisan cooperation..."
