CHICAGO, Illinois – William Reynolds, of the 2nd District of Illinois, spoke at a convention for Democracy of America. Democracy of America supports fiscally responsible, socially liberal candidates across the country as well as participating actively in get out the vote measures nation-wide.
Excerpts follow:
“It is a pleasure to be speaking here today. I feel that people like you embody everything that is great about America. It is time for responsible, progressive leadership to take back our country and I believe we have the support, today, to do it. It is time to fight back to support women’s right to choice, freedom of marriage, as well as making sure that America does not involve itself in costly wars which it can’t afford and doesn’t need to fight.
But today I’d like to speak to you about a very specific measure, which I hope you all support. I’m talking about the legislation I recently submitted called ‘Election Tuesday’. The GOP doesn’t want ordinary, working class Americans to vote, because they know that these Americans vote Democrat. They know that your average U.S. citizen is a Democrat who, if given the chance, would vote to take back our great country from the clutches of a wealthy minority and give it back to the people. That’s what Election Tuesday is all about. Even with the support of President Warder, who we all know is about as similar to a normal Republican as a banana is similar to a handgun, you’re not going to see a lot of Republican support for a measure like this. But I pledge to you, right here and right now, that the Democratic Party will not stop its efforts to get out the vote and we will not rest till responsible, progressive leadership that represents the true majority of Americans once again governs this great country of ours.”
