GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS
Vice President Edgar C. Oswald
Approval rating: 58% (+/-0%) Comment: In spite of being given tough tasks by President Rick Warder, Vice President Oswald has profiled himself as a staunch defender of the Republican Old Guard. The Christian Coalition and Moral Majority seem to think Oswald isn't perfect, but leagues better than Warder or the Democrats. And centrists admire Oswald's no-nonsense approach and smooth handling of Senate affairs. Will Oswald be able to persuade seniors that Medicare reform is in their interest? P.S. Look out for the cane!
Chief Justice William Pope
Approval rating: 55% (+4%) Comment: The American Bar Association thinks Chief Justice Pope is doing a solid job as far as organizing the Court goes. He still needs to write up his order of business and get the decision machine cranking, especially if Senator Shackleton follows through on threats he has been making vis-a-vis the Mexican-American Guest Worker Agreement.
Secretary of Defense Avery Adams
Approval rating: 55% (+4%) Comment: Secretary of Defense Adams is viewed as engaged, intelligent and honest, a worthy replacement to John McCain. His fact finding trip to Iraq has drawn raised eyebrows from the press, but they also hope that he will return with a solid strategy for not only wiping out the rest of the insurgency, but dealing with recalcitrant Syria and Iran.
