Victor Enrique Carmen Fernandez
Place of Birth- Beetown Township, Grant County, Wisconsin
Date of Birth- 01/30/1978
Platteville, Wisconsin
Wisconsin
Democrat
Victor was born on a farm in rural Grant County, Wisconsin to a family who had come to this country as immigrants over six decades previous and had worked until they could buy their own property. The family farm prospered as well as the Fernandez family.
The Fernandez family had always been prominent in local and county government when Victor came to be.
Victor had always been an extraordinarily bright child and his parents, Laura and Alejandro Fernandez, did everything they could to let Victor grow educationally at the speed he wanted, and when Victor turned fifteen years old, he actually graduated from High School. He entered the University of Wisconsin at Madison that same year and double majored in Political Science and Secondary Education. Victor would graduate Summa Cum Laude in 1993. He added his Masters Degree in Political Science in the fall semester of 1995 and finally his Doctorate in 1997.
Victor took his first professorship at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and a year later took a full professorial position at the University of Wisconsin. He taught with distinction his own personal brand of Political science classes for the next three years, including becoming a very politically active member of many groups, clubs and organizations on campus. Victor had also grown to become an exceptional stump and motivational speaker and finally heard the call in his soul to run for political office and first ran for the State Assembly in 2002. Victor pulled out a slim victory (51.3% of the vote) and began to make a good name for himself. In 2007, the incumbent Federal Representative unfortunately became ill and could not seek another term to office prompting an incredible race for the newly open seat in 2008. Victor was one of the first to toss his hat into that race and despite the fact he had the least money, he was able to pull out an amazing "upset" and won the seat on the strength of his honesty, grit, charisma and eloquency.
Now as he embarks on his first journey at the Federal level, he knows he must also take his political gamesmanship to higher levels, but he is committed to serving the state of Wisconsin and all of his constituents with honor, dedication and never forgetting where he came from.
