Senator heads home to deal with the longshoremen’s strike.
Senator Dan Sterling wasted little time this afternoon when hearing that the longshoremen were preparing to go on strike.
“This is as the potential to be a devastating situation, and I feel that I need to do all I can to help solve it.” he said while exiting the his Senate office.
Senator Sterling as made no secret in of his support for the cause of unions in the past, but many local observers up “Mr. Negotiator” can bring both sides together to reach a deal.
“This is what he does” said Stanford Political Science Professor Norm Daniels, “He brings people together. The challenge will be if he can bring these two sides together here”
We shall all

Senator Sterling’s comments on the President budget This President as asked for a fight, and I prepare to give him one. I will not stand idle and let the President slap elderly and poor Americans in the face. He really has some nerve, he has woken up the dog in millions of disenfranchised Americans, and I’ll be there voice.

Senator leading both sides towards a deal
I’ve been moderating high level negotiations all day between the longshoremen and the Long Beach and Los Angeles Port Authorities, Union Pacific Railroad, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and the Orient Overseas Container Lines (OOCL) . While both sides still have some distance between them, I believe that a deal can be reached in the foreseeable future. Both sides must understand that negotiations are all about give and take; I believe that soon we will have a deal that both parties can live with.
