WASHINGTON, D.C. - After hearing about the authorization of the use of force put before the House, newly re-elected Senate Minority Leader Cody Shea (D-NC) spoke to reporters outside his D.C. offices. He voiced serious concerns about the timing of the legislation and the sweeping powers that it would grant the administration.
"Let me tell you, I am in no hurry to rush into another war before we've completely confirmed the validity of the intelligence and established the necessity of unilateral force," said Shea, "If the President wants my support or my party's support for this authorization in the Senate he needs to make his case, not simply demand we give him carte blanche."
The Minority Leader seemed adamant about not repeating the mistakes of the past, obviously referring about the lead up to the Iraq War.
"We're not going to just roll over this time and accept what the administration tells us at face value. We owe the American people a thorough investigation and a measured response."
