Goodwin headlines major GOP fundraiser in NYC Major Fundraiser
Former baseball great Hank Goodwin headlined a major Republican Party fundraiser at Keystone Park on Coney Island. The major event of the night was the chance to take batting practice against Goodwin. Donors who purchased a ticket got to stand in for three pitches against the five time Cy Young Award winner, and many donors purchased additional tickets so that their kids could have a chance at bat as well.
Following the batting practice, Goodwin was on hand to meet with donors. He circulated among the crowd, pausing to shake hands, talk, pose for pictures, and sign autographs. Joining him was his wife, Country star Kate Longfield, who worked the cowd along with Hank and also performed several of her hit songs later in the evening.
Hank opened the event with a brief speech in which he outlined the future goals of the Republican party and thanked the donors for thier support:
"It is altogether fitting that we are here at this place devoted to America's great traditional pastime to work for the political party devoted to protecting America's traditions. Those traditions include democracy, freedom, faith, and family. The Republican Party is fighting to spread democracy throughout the world, to assure that all Americans are free to live lives untrammelled by excessive government control, to express our mutual faith in the unique dignity of man, and to support the family, which is the foundation of our society. I am glad that you are all here to work with us as we struggle to achieve these noble goals."
