*Senator Williams spoke to top executives representing the largest and most powerful companies in the American military industrial complex at a major fundraiser for the GOP in the Sacremento Convention Centre. The cost of the function was set at $1000 a plate with companies being assigned their own tables, so as to allow the executives to discuss amongst themselves how much money their company should donate to the Senator's re-election campaign. Wives were encouraged to attend which meant that many companies had upwards of 3 tables to accomadate their executives and partners. Naturally the discussion of how much to give the Senator failed to phase the wives, quite used to such discussions at events like this one.
Drinks were served in the entrance hall allowing the Senator roughly 20 minutes to work the major players of the evening, of most noteworthy status the CEO of Lockheed Martin.
The Senator did not work the room on a professional level at the end of the evening, limiting conversation to personal details and small talk unless it was brought up by a potential donor. This was so as to leave the executives to make up their own minds with regards to campaign donations, and not to make them feel as if they were being handled in any way.
Any empty part of the room was curtained off (OOC: What I'm saying here Rick is that if this function only went to 75% capacity, the remaining 25% floor space was hidden behind curtains) so as to boost the feeling of a massive turnout for the Senators fundraiser. The Senators address rather than being about business itself (as his commitment to cutting red tape and improving infrastructure, as well as reducing corporate taxes has been well articulated at other functions already), but rather his foreign policy stance.*
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen and thankyou all for being here. It is wonderful for me to see so many close friends and prominent members of the business community here tonight to support my campaign and for that I am truly thankful.
Obviously the foreign policy of this nation is of particular concern to the businesses you represent and therefore it would be fitting of me to discuss this with you a little tonight.
I believe that America needs to strengthen the line it takes with regards to foreign policy, as the world's pre-eminent super power we have a responsibility to other nations around the globe. Equally, we have a resonsibility to our own citizens to protect our national interests all around the globe.
For that reason I am a firm believer and advocate of the use of force when it is necessary. Furthermore, I am equally commited to ensuring that this use of force is conducted with as little risk as possible to the lives of our servicemen and women. For that reason I believe our military should have the best technology available, indeed the best technology that the companies you represent can provide. Each day, the equipment you provide saves lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, each day your equipment takes a man out of harms way, each day your equipment protects our schools and communities from terrorists, and we cannot allow this edge to be blunted.
In summary, I believe that we need to expand our armed services and upgrade the technology available to them to face and deal with the ever growing and ever diverse threats to our national interest, and to protect that national interest requires a commitment to overwhelming superioity in the quality of our equipment and technology."
OOC: Please be sure to factor in the not so subtle sub-text of this address when calculating how much I made Also, do what we say at fundraisers count for anything with regards to our polls and our coalitions? Cause I'm thinking this speech would've picked up a few from the centre-right?
