Mr. Speaker:
We in the federal government stand here today with at least limited job security; most of us will have a job guaranteed for 2 years, while those in the other house can count on employment for 6 and President Warder can call 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue home for 4 years. Unfortunately, many of our consituents don't have that luxury.
According to today's Wall Street Journal, unemployment claims have continued to rise. The current rate is 6.3%. Six percent! It would be easy to point fingers and blame those in power for the last several years. That won't get our citizens paychecks, however.
Instead, we in the federal government need to work together regardless of political ideology and find ways to stimulate job growth. The budget we have before us now offers that opportunity, which we must take; but we must not stop there.
We must do something now to save Americans' jobs -- just remember, they're the ones who decide whether we keep our own.
I yield.
