Columbia - The State
VP ATTENDS FUNDRAISER
COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA- Vice President Edgar Oswald returned to his home state Monday to attend the annual South Carolina State GOP Fundraiser. Also in attendance were Republican House Members, the South Carolina Governor, the two Republican Senators, and a variety of state and local officials. The Vice President gave the following remarks at the black suit and tie gala:
"I'm pleased to be standing among my constituents in South Carolina once again; many of you which I've had to opportunity to come to know and call my friends. For as long as I can remember, the Republican Party has stood up for our values and the dignity of our nation. We have vowed to protect states rights, while at the same time have vowed to protect our nation from great evils. My friends and colleagues, I am proud to be standing among you here tonight--you who share these beliefs of mine.”
“We as a nation are battling a global war on terror. For nearly nine years, steady leadership has kept our borders safe and the conflict far from home.”
“Meanwhile, Democrats would prefer to see us cut-and-run, to see us flee in the face of our enemy. By working against this administration and the previous one, some people have sought to topple the Republican majority by using smear campaigns and fear tactics. They believe the cause isn’t great us or the challenge is too difficult, but I believe no task is insurmountable. Election after election, the people have continually cast their ballot for a Republican candidate; despite the opposition’s clamoring. I stand here to tell you that I believe we are acting in our nation’s interest; and the fact that the voters have voted for us time and time again proves that the average American believes the same thing.”
“We are fighting not only to secure a free and democratic Iraq, but we’re fighting to protect our own democratic interests as well. Terrorists abroad who seek to harm our citizens or our way of life fear what America has to offer its people. We are a country of liberty and values, and we will forever be that shining city on a hill. The good people of South Carolina know this in their hearts too, I believe, and I hope they’ll send our candidates back for another term for sharing these common ideals. Therefore, let us prepare ourselves for another display of our nation’s democratic process, and let us show the world once again that America can put its faith in our party.”
“Thank you and good night.”
