Edgar Oswald: 1931-2009 Vice President Suffers Fatal Heart Attack at Age 78
BETHESDA, Maryland-
Vice President Edgar Clement Oswald passed away at 4:23 AM EST on December 23, 2009 from a massive heart attack that doctors were unable to treat successfully. Just two days before Christmas, the Vice President was schedule to fly home to South Carolina today following a press conference regarding Iran. Instead, his wife was quickly summoned to Walter Reed Army Medical Center and would be later accompanied by his children who flew in from South Carolina.
Vice President Oswald is to be buried at Arlington National Cemetary, having served his country in the navy during the Korean war. President Warder ordered all flags to be flown at half staff, and members of Congress have been making stirring statements about the legacy of the former sailor, senator and vice president.
Services are expected to be held December 26, the day after Christmas. Mrs. Barbara Oswald has asked that any contributions or memorials be made to the Red Cross.
There have been no announcements as of this point on who the President intends to nominate to replace the veteran Oswald.
