Iraq Fact Finding Mission Itinerary Due to security concerns, the exact nature of the trip will not be revealed. It is expected to last about five days, and will include visiting the following: - US Ambassador and Multi-National Corps commander, US Embassy, Baghdad - Iraqi president, as well as key parliament and political party members, Baghdad - 177th Military Police Brigade, MI National Guard, Baghdad [training and supporting Iraqi internal security forces] - 3rd Brigade (Stryker), 2nd Infantry Division, Mosul and northern Iraqi-Syrian border [border and security support operations] - 2nd (Heavy) Brigades, 28th Division - PA National Guard, northern Iraqi-Iranian border [border operations] - undisclosed Special Force Battalion [training and liaison with Iraqi Army] - 1st Marine Division in western Iraq and along the Syrian border [security and border operations] To sum up or efforts there, Iraqi security forces independently control all but four provinces (see map www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/images/oif-map-050700.gif). In three of the remaining provinces the Iraqis lead the efforts and we provide support. In Al Anbar province the Marines continue to lead security efforts side-by-side with Iraqi units. Special Forces are the core effort in training of and liaison with Iraqi forces; as well as providing an anti-terror/rapid reaction force. In addition, our forces focus on securing the borders with Syria and Iran.
