Mr Speaker,
The gentlemen on the other side of the isle want to deny this budget. They vote Nay and they say they want to cut the deficit. Show us a clear plan, walk to the table with a clear plan. As everyone knows me i fought to keep Welfare. The cuts were drastic at first and i helped broker a slighter cut. The cuts to education do not come from its current base but the increase we are purposing for this year. Clearly there is nothing wrong with cutting funds we have yet to allocate. I think that the additions to Education and the cuts proposed will benifit all citizens. And i stand resolute in my vote for the amendment which is aye. I hope that our distinguished gentlemen from the other side of the row can either come up with a clear plan for cutting the deficit or step in line and support a positive budget.
I Yield..

Mr. Speaker,
The gentleman from Colorado has asked us to come up with an alternative to the drastic budget cuts being proposed here. I can tell you simply that I would do it in the same mold as President Clinton - moderate spending cuts with moderate tax reform. We don't have to roll back all of the Bush tax cuts, but we can certainly limit some of them. That will combine increased revenue with decreased spending. We should never only focus on one side of the equation, being either spending or taxation.
I yield.
